Big news just for blog readers

I am happy to tell you that the quilt shop is now an authorized seller of the "Go Cutter" by Accuquilt. This little cutting machine will help you cut your fabric into squares, triangles, circles, etc. It is a portable cutting machine. It will be coming to the store soon, in the meantime, check it out at the website- Go Cutter
We will have the cutters for sale, plus all of the cutting dies and supplies that you will need to go with it. Do you hate to cut? This will make it so much easier and a lot more fun! I'll post on the blog when it arrives.

Wow, what a great sale!

Today was our sale, people came in and 9:00 and we didn't stop cutting or putting fabrics away until 5:00. Thanks so much to all of our friends who came to see us today. It was wonderful to see so many of our friends sewing again. Our sale goes on again tomorrow, our hours tomorrow are 9-5- special sale hours for a Sunday.

Potluck patchwork day!

Today was our Patchwork Potluck Class. If you have never come to one, here is how it works. You come to the class, see the unveiling of the quilt. If you like it and want to make it, you can stay for a class and purchase a kit.

maybe menopause isn't so bad after all

My old friend "hot flashes" returned last night... so at 4 a.m. I decided enough was enough. I went downstairs to my sewing room. Yesterday at the Quilt Shop we received a shipment of a new magazine from Better Homes and Gardens... "Bags, Pillow and Pincushions. I found a wonderful pattern for a "shop hoppers bag". 3 fat quarters, one skinny third and you have this adorable bag. I finished it this morning before school.
( of course I'll probably be asleep by 3 this afternoon).
The bag has pockets inside to hold credit cards, cash, etc. Plus a nice roomy bottom to hold whatever else you need. Remember, our "Road Trip, ( shop hop)" is in 2 weeks,
If you carry a small bag like this, there will be more room in the car for fabric. :)

It's up and running.

March madness is coming

Here in Connecticut we live for the month of March and UConn basketball. We have some great UConn fabric here at the store. We've made pajamas, pillows and pillowcases out of it. Go Huskies!

Tomorrow , Sunday Feb 22nd is our Best Foot Forward lecture demo. We will be demonstrating the Bernina Circular attachment. I used this to make a really sweet little basket. Stop in tomorrow for a demonstration of this great tool. It starts at 12.

busy weekend at the Quilt Shop

Today was our Cutter Case class... I'm happy to report everyone finished their cutter case. Here are two of them. This was a great class to help people learn the functions of their sewing machine. We are offering this class again in March... there are still openings. If you want to feel more comfortable with your machine, sign up today!
Our friend Terri was in the cutter class today, she brought her newest creation, a beautiful memory quilt for her sister's birthday. Terri had no pattern, she just made this up as she went along. She did a great job! Keep up the great work Terri!

Our bathroom is the best!

I decided after our Valentine celebration on Saturday, to decorate the Quilt Shop bathroom myself. People comment all the time about how they love visiting our bathroom. When the owners' last name is Murphy.... well, there is just one thing to put up for the next holiday on the calendar. I just hope Ginny likes it when she sees it! Have you seen a UFO?

No, not this kind. Do you have a sewing room filled with UFO? You know, the Un Finished Object..... type of project. We are having a sit and sew night at the Quilt Shop Friday, Feb 20th. You can come over, use our spacious classroom, ask for help, ( just in case you forgot what to do), and sew to your hearts content with no interruptions! ). Sound like heaven? Then call us and save your spot! We'd love to have you. Better yet, gather up some of your quilting friends to join you!

This week at the Quilt Shop

This is a busy week at the Quilt Shop. Lois will finish up her "Just Too Easy" class tomorrow, Mango Tango starts on Thursday, but best of all, Ginny returns from her vacation on Friday!
I spent my afternoon today working on a project for our "focus on feet" lecture/demo next Sunday Feb 22. We will be demonstrating the circular embroidery attachment for Bernina machines. I spent the afternoon playing with my decorative stitches. Hmmmm what will this be when it is done! Stay tuned!

Welcome back Jane!

Yesterday was our Clothesline Club day. We were a full house and had a wonderful time. Our dear friend Jane returned from a long illness. We are all so glad that she is back. Jane brought some of the hand applique blocks that she worked on during her recovery. Aren't they gorgeous? Thanks for sharing your wonderful work Jane.

Hello Betty

We are still charm square crazy at the Quilt Shop. This is a quilt I made from our new "Hello Betty" charm square collection from Moda. I'm going to show it tomorrow at Clothesline Club. We have the charm squares, jelly rolls and 2 bolts of Hello Betty fabrics that you can use for borders, binding, etc. Doesn't it look like it is from the 40's?

New fabrics this week

Isn't this adorable? This is a new print from Alexander Henry. Wouldn't this be great for a little boy? It would make a great backing for a quilt, or borders. It would also make a cute pillowcase.
This other fabric is also from Alexander Henry. Doesn't this remind you of going to the movies,or to a carnival?
I'm thinking of using this in a tote bag for the summer.

This week at the Quilt Shop

Classes are in full swing this week. Our Sampler 2 class starts on Tuesday night.

This month we will have a Valentine Party.... see lots of new ideas and projects, and actually learn some history about a dreaded household chore! :)

Can't sleep, go sew

I woke up this morning at 4, then I remembered my new toy was downstairs. Just like a little kid I went downstairs and started her up again!
I am in love with machine embroidery. This machine makes it so easy. My first project is a quilt for school. There is a new fabric group coming soon called, "Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see? " This is based on a children's book by Eric Carle. I'm cutting up the panel and adding embroidered blocks with words in between the pictures.
Of course, once I got it all set up my husband brought me some pajamas that needed mending.
Is he kidding? Who has time for that?
Nice part is, I have my 440 still set up so I can do that, while my new machine is embroidering.

Betty is home

After we had our "date with 8" event at the Quilt Shop, I packed up my new machine... ( named Betty, yes I name them all). Once I got her home, the decision was, where to put it.I tried it in several places, which meant moving everything all over. After about an hour of reorganizing, I got it all set up on my counter. I even washed the floor! ( I think that was the first time in a long time).
and yes, I had to make a little movie about my first project. Remember, tomorrow at the quilt shop, is our lecture/demo of the free motion couching foot. Come on over and try it! It is fun!

Baby Grace is home, and yes she has met brother Mikey. Isn't this the happiest picutre?

Today I get to take home my new machine.... now I have to convince my husband I need a new cabinet.

Test drive an 830 this Saturday

This Saturday we are repeating our "date with 8" event at the Quilt Shop. You can come in and try a new Bernina 830.
Now, before you say, I can't afford it, think about this. Before you buy a car, you think about the features that you want on the car, leather seats, power windows, all wheel drive, etc.
It should be the same way with a sewing machine. What features do you want on a sewing machine? If you test drive the 830, you will learn about lots of features that are also available on the other Bernina models. Try the 830, find the features that you like. Then when you are ready to buy a new machine, you will know what you want.

Big news at the Quilt Shop today! We are happy to announce a new member to our family, Gracie Murphy was born today. Look out Mikey, here comes your new sister! No pictures yet, but as soon as I get them I will post them. Feel free to post a comment to congratulate Ginny and Dennis!
What is the first quilt we will send baby Grace? I see lots of new "girl" fabrics in our future!

Put your best foot forward

Next Sunday Feb 8th, from 12-1 is our first "Put your best foot forward" lecture demo. These classes are free, we just ask that you call so we know how many people to expect. We will be demonstrating the new #43 foot, the free motion couching foot. This foot allows you to "draw" shapes on your fabric using cording. We have the cording available here in a rainbow of colors. Call us today to let us know you will come join in the fun! Plus if you come to the class, you will get 20% off the any of the "Feetures" books. These are great books published by Bernina that tell you all about the presser feet and accessories available for Berninas!

cute skirts for cute little girls!

Ginny found this pattern in a magazine and made it up out of some of our new fabrics. As usual with new patterns, she couldn't stop by making just one, I think she is up to her third skirt now.
