and the quilt is growing

I have a street now.... 3 houses in a row.
Ok, I'll admit it, I'm hooked on these fabrics. They are just fun. You look at them and you just feel happy!
I was only going to do 3 houses, I think I will do 6. It would make a cute table runner.

new Kaffe book... and I am making something

I bought this book last week. I have all of his books, but usually I don't make too many things out of Kaffe Fasset books or fabrics. I found a quilt I just loved, houses. We are learning about houses in first grade, so I thought this would tie right in. Yesterday I sat on the floor at the store right in front of the Kaffe fabrics. Usually I just put them away when other people buy them, but yesterday I pulled them off the shelf and figured out which fabrics would be the house, which would be the roof, etc. It was fun! Today I cleaned my sewing room, put all of my old projects away, and started my houses. 3 done so far! I'll have a town soon!

I'm just in a funk

Have you ever had a time when you just couldn't sew? I'm going through that now. I sit down at the machine and I look at it, but I just can't get my creative juices flowing again.
What do you do when you are hitting a roadblock? Well, I got in the car tonight and went to the quilt shop.
A new book arrived, not just any book, a new Kaffe Fasset book... and in true quilt shop style, everyone has started making a quilt from the book. Lois has an absolutely gorgeous quilt started, Ginny is making a beautiful log cabin quilt all from Kaffe Fasset fabrics... even Amy has the cover quilt started. Talk about pressure! I'd better get going.
Plus, new fabrics arrived, a beautiful new group from Lakehouse.
Tonight I will make a plan, this weekend, I will start again!

Happy fall to one and all

I'm sorry to tell you, but it is fall. We all know the big holiday in Fall. Halloween. Look at this great new fabric we got in for Halloween... Ginny made up this great pillowcase with it.
Wouldn't that be great for your kids, or even yourself?

Have you signed up for a class yet?

So many of you signed up for classes last weekend. This quilt was hung up in the classroom and I was afraid you might have missed it. This is Eleanor Burns, Day and Night quilt. This quilt is actually 3 in 1. You make the lap size quilt, using either 2, 3 or 4 fabrics, then from the leftover pieces, you can make a table runner and a mini quilt. Talk about a bargain.
Stop in to see it in person.

Ginny does it again

I love sales. During sales we get to see so many of our Quilt Shop customers and during sales we all get to be together, Ginny, Amy T., Lois, Amy D, and I. Yesterday as the sale was starting, Amy T. pulled out her latest project. " I am making 3 bags at one time" she proudly announced," and I am only using one pack of Bali pops" Bali pops are packs of precut 2 1/2 inch strips of beautiful batik fabrics. Sure enough, inbetween cutting fabric for customers, Amy did make 3 bags.
The light bulb went on in Ginny's head... hey, this would be a great class.
So, on October 18th- we are offering a free class in this great bag. All you have to do is buy one pack of Bali Pops and the pattern, and you will get the class for free.
We've already had people sign up, so if you would like to come, call us today, or better yet, stop in.
Today is our last day of the "Back to Sewing " sale. 20% off fabrics, books, notions, 10% off kits and fabric packs...

I finished 3 quilt tops this weekend

I spent my holiday weekend sewing. I enjoyed every minute of it, I was able to relax, and I even enjoyed putting borders on. Usually I hate putting borders on. So now I have these 3 quilt tops, ready to be layered and quilted. One at a time!
Here is my favorite... my new frog quilt. Thanks to my friend Donna who loaned me her magazine that had this pattern in it. It is in the new issue of Quilt World magazine.
Ribbit ribbit.

Monkeying around

Seeing how it was my idea to kit up a monkey tumbler, I get to make the sample of the Monkey tumbler quilt.
I started this morning at 8... got all the rows pieced together by 9:30.
Went shopping, came home and got the rows sewn together in an hour.
Now to add borders and it is pieced.
These are the "goodnight monkey" fabrics from Moda.

Remember, next weekend is our Back to sewing sale, Friday 9/11, Sat 9/12 and Sunday 9/13.
Did you know September is National Sewing Month? Sure would be a great time to start sewing again. Have a great holiday weekend.

Storm at Sea....

No hurricanes this weekend, but look at this great quilt Lois made. This is her Storm at Sea quilt, I think she made it for her son. We are having a class on this quilt in the new schedule. Most people panic when they see this quilt, thinking, it is just too hard for me. Not anymore! Lois used a new book and tool to help make this quilt. Class is filling up, sign up soon.

Bali Pops....

We have the great assortment of Bali Pops, but what do you do with them? They are collections of 2 1/2 inch strips of beautiful Bali Batiks. We found a great pattern for this bag that uses Bali Pops. Isn't it great!

oilcloth has arrived

Do you remember oilcloth? I remember using it in Brownies when I was 7, making something called a sit upon. We cut squares, sewed them together with newspapers in the middle. It was like a cushion for sitting on the ground. How times have changed. The oilcoth I used never looked like this. Both of these fabrics arrived this week. Ginny made an apron out of it, Amy T made a bag. It looks like it is fun to work with. Stop in to see it soon.
