our new favorite book

Sometimes we get so busy sewing quilts, we forget that we have the talent to make other things. This new book is so much fun. It has 101 different sewing projects, and all of them use one yard of fabric. We've been having fun making some of these projects. You will see them soon on display at the store.
I made this yesterday, it is a laptop sleeve! I used some fabric from the Niecy Jane collection, along with some of my Kaffe Fasset scraps for the flap.
My computer is a Mac, so I appliqued an apple on it. Plus I have an orange cover on my laptop, so this fabric matches perfectly.
Stay tuned for more projects, I picked up more fabric today...

Swiss Fest

Bernina is holding a "Swiss Fest", starting March 1 to March 8th. Purchase a new Bernina during that time and you will be given a scratch off card. You can save $100, $150, $500 or $5000 on a new machine.
If you are thinking about getting a new machine, this is a great time to do it!
We have all of the machines at the store for you to try. This only goes till March 8, so come see us soon.

back open again

We will open today at 9. Come on over. We'd love to see you!
I know cabin fever is hitting me, I can't wait to get out again!
See you soon!

meet Tabitha

This is Lois' cat Tabitha. She loves to keep her company when Lois is sewing.
Watch that tail Tabitha.....

yep, we are closed today

So Ginny has 15 inches of snow at her house. Lois and I have about 4, but lots of ice underneath. The store is closed today! Don't despair. Hopefully we will be open tomorrow morning!
So what are you working on today?
I am still quilting this quilt. I decided to have some fun making freehand feathers in the corner triangles.
My 830 is still having it's spa treatment, so I am doing this on my 440. I'm using my Bernina Stitch Regulator and it is sewing like a dream.
Want to learn how to do this? We have great classes in machine quilting, and great deals on Bernina 440 sewing machines. Check out the Bernina website for some specials starting next week.

Stay home and sew!

The snow is falling, the wind is blowing. Under the snow is a thick layer of ice. It isn't a day to venture out. I have a feeling the Quilt Shop is closed today.
I am starting to quilt a quilt that will be in the new schedule as a class.
I'll post a big picture later.
Stay safe everyone.
Send me pictures of the projects you are working on today!
I know someone who is going to try to make another yo yo!

some of us like hand work, some don't

Now, I am not one to tell tales out of school, ( or out of the store in this case). I have just noticed that some people love to do hand sewing and some don't. One person at the Quilt Shop avoids it at all cost. Imagine our surprise yesterday when that person created this, using a hand sewing needle and thread. :)
This is a historic day at the quilt shop!
I'm not saying who, I'm just noting this day in history!
Stay dry everyone! It's awful out there

Here we go again

Here we go again, snow, rain, snow, ice, it's all coming this way.
Imagine my surprise when I got up this morning, half expecting a delayed opening of school, we have no school. I immediately went into my sewing room, turned on my machine.
I laid out my day.... finish some planes, work on my pickles, maybe start something new?
Unexpected sewing times are the best! It's always good to be prepared. You never know when you might find yourself with some time on your hands.
I keep thinking about trying a lone star..... stay tuned! Spring is coming, ( or so they say).

I am just too attached....

I've had my Bernina 830 for a year already. Hard to believe. I make sure that I send my machines for a "spa" treatment at least once a year. Usually I do it every 6 months, but as I really just started sewing full time on this machine, I waited till now.
This morning I took it out of the cabinet, brought it up to the car. I felt so sad all morning at school. I know that our mechanic will take great care of it, I know it will come back like a brand new machine.
I just miss it already!
I put my Bernina 440, back in the new cabinet. I did a little sewing on it. Boy am I spoiled. Where is my automatic thread cutter, why wont this machine lower my presser foot...
I am just too attached to my machines.
If you haven't had your machine cleaned and tuned in a while, now is the time to do it. It is worth every penny. Isn't it worth it to have your machine ready to sew whenever you want to sew?
Machines go out to the mechanic on Thursdays. We service all brands of machines. Need more information, just call us, 203-743-0543

how many quilts can you make at one time?

I looked around my sewing room last night, ( never a good thing to do), and realized that I had 4 projects started at the same time.
This called for major organization.
I searched the house for empty boxes,
1. My Kaliedoscope quilt in an old "amazon" box
2. My plane quilt in one of the great project boxes we have at the store
3. My pickle dish project in a clear plastic box
4. My water bottle sewing caddy project in a ziploc bag, ( more on that to come soon)
So everything is now organized, they are in separate corners of the room.
Now I try to do a little bit of each of them each day. ( I know, who am I kidding, but I can dream.)
All I need now is a big snowstorm and I am good to go.
I need 4 more Kaleidoscope blocks, 7 more planes, lots of pickles, and about 40 minutes to finish the water bottle project.
There is one thing I can say about quilters, we are never without a project!
Have a great day everyone

The plane, the plane.

I have a dear friend at school named Kristen. Kristen has been my angel since being moved to first grade. I would not have survived without her guidance and friendship. She is expecting her 2nd child, a boy she will call Jack.
I was thrilled when she asked me to make her baby quilt for Jack. Her husband wanted planes.
I call this Jack Fontaine's planes.
Each day I make one more plane.
4 done, 12 more to go.
She wants a double size quilt.
I'll keep you all posted on it's progress.
