showers and showers

Tomorrow at school we are having a baby shower for 2 soon to be mom's. What were my choices?
Go out in the rain and buy something... Look through the stack of baby quilts I have here, none of them went with the "theme" that the mom has chosen, or get out my One Yard Wonder book and start sewing.
That's what I did, I got my book out and found the pattern for the little tag along blanket and the bib. In about an hour, I had both gifts finished.
Nicest part was, I used what I had at home. Another good reason to have a big stash! :)
Stay dry everyone.

There's no place like home....

Our friend Amy came back to the Quilt Shop yesterday. Dressed in her finest, brace, boot and walker, she went through the front door and said, " ahhhhh, it's good to be home".
That started me thinking. The Quilt Shop is more than a store, it is our home away from home for everyone. You can meet your friends here, pet fabric, get ideas for projects, share stories, but most of all, enjoy yourself.
We are glad Amy is on the mend. We loaded her up with a few new projects to start.
Stay dry everyone!

It's magic

Have you heard of Texture Magic? It is this great new project that crinkles up your fabric after you machine quilt it. You layer your fabric with batting, then put Texture Magic under the batting.
Stitch, either free motion, or straight line, turn it over, steam it with your iron, and look what you get:
We are now carrying it, in 1/2 yard pieces or full yard pieces.
Try it soon, It's Magic!

going to the show

The CT Piecemakers quilt show opens today at 10. Lois and I will be there, Ginny will be at the store. Tumblers all around, lots of great ones at the show, plus lots of great ones at the store!
If you need a quick, easy project, come on over.
Our One Yard Wonder Challenge is still going strong. We have over 25 people signed up already! If you want to join the fun, come on over and sign up. It's a great way to get free fabric!

the tumbling tumblers are back

We started making new tumbler kits again. The kits sell for $45, and we have finishing kits that contain the inner border, outer border and binding, for $22. All of your tumbler pieces are cut, all you have to do is sit down and sew.
If you need a quick quilt that is really a no brainer to make, come on over and see us. The quilts are at the Long Island Quilt Show today, but they will be back in the store tomorrow. I'll try to take pictures of the new ones, so if you see one you like, you can order it by phone.

Happy National Quilting Day

We had the best Quilting day ever. So many friends came in to the store today, bringing lots of their quilt tops with them. Everyone was stocking up on batting.
My favorite part of the day was my Let's Go Dottie class. To celebrate National Quilting Day I had everyone in the class tell about how they first started quilting. When did you start quilting? It seems that almost everyone had someone who inspired them, or showed them all about quilting. It's always great to pay it forward, who can you inspire with your quilting skills.
Lois and I are going to visit Amy tomorrow morning. I'm bringing her a new applique pattern that just arrived this week. This might help her feel better!
Does this remind you of spring?
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Check it out!

Get well soon Amy

I think everyone who has shopped at the Quilt Shop knows our friend Amy. Amy is our "bag lady", our mentor, our friend, our teacher. Amy took a fall last weekend, she is fine, but she is literally off her feet for a little bit. Worse part is, Amy has to stay upstairs, her machine is downstairs.
If you would like to drop her a note or a card, we will make sure she gets it. Drop it off at the quilt shop, or you can mail it to us.. The Quilt Shop, 5 Padanarum Rd Danbury CT 06811

Thanks everyone!

Time to make the 9 patches

Calling all blockswappers- your 9 patch blocks are due by March 27th! You can drop them off anytime before then. I finished mine this morning.
