challenges

Right before New Years Day you hear a lot about resolutions, what are you going to do in the new year. You always hear the same ones, lose weight, exercise, etc. Have you ever thought about challenging yourself to do something new. I am trying this on Saturday. For the past few months I have been going to Spin classes at the gym. I love it, you sit on this bike, and ride for 45 minutes. There is a instructor who tells you to stand or sit, turn up the resistance, etc. The best part is you can totally ignore the instructor and just ride your own ride. On Saturday the gym I go to is having a spin challenge, a 2 hour spin class. I've never ridden for 2 hours before. I've done a 45 minute class, a 60 minutes class, and a few times I've done 2 45 minute classes back to back, but never a 2 hour class. My plan.... sit in the back, and try to ride the best I can.
Have you tried to challenge yourself with your quilting? Sometimes we get stuck in the same old routine, always making the same kind of quilt. Have you tried paper piecing? Have you tried curved seams? Have you tried applique? I'm going to try something new. I've always loved the New York Beauty pattern. I want to try it. I tried it once a looooooong time ago, but maybe I will do it better this time!
Our schedule at the store will be: Thursday Dec 30th our hours are 9-5. We are closed Friday and Saturday for New Years. We will be open from 12-4 on Sunday. That is if I make it through this 2 hour spin class on Saturday.
Have a wonderful New Years.

oh my what a storm

The storm came and hit us hard... Lois had water in her basement, no heat, I had no power, which in my house means, no heat, no water, no lights, no BERNINA! The only one who seemed to have fun in this storm is Ginny, who is enjoying a visit from her grandchildren.
I am hoping that we will open tomorrow at 9.. or at least a little after depending on the road conditions. Best advice I can give you... call before you come, just to make sure.
So what did I do all day. Well, after putting on about 9 layers of clothing, which included long underwear, a robe, a sweater, a hat and a scarf, I pulled out my GO cutter. I spend part of my day cutting out 5 inch squares from my scraps. I almost started cutting a new tumbler jacket, but then the sun was going down and my room was getting dark.
Lights came on a little later..... cross your fingers that they stay on!
Hope you are all safe and sound! Come see us when you get dug out!

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for being so flexible today. This is quite a storm.
On the plus side, I was able to get a whole quilt top pieced, layered and I am now quilting it.
I'll post pictures tomorrow.
When we do open, all remaining Christmas fabric will be 60% off. One yard minimum cut please.
So what have you been sewing today?

Snow snow

We decided to stay closed today. The forecast is for lots of snow and wind. Stay home and sew everyone. Be safe.

Santa Claus is everywhere

Santa's are everywhere. Our friends Sandy and Regina took our Santa class last month and finished their Santas.... Same pattern but oh so different looks. Sandy made mini quilts of red and white squares for her Santa, Regina used beautiful Moda fabrics in shades of dark red.
Thanks ladies for sharing these with us!
I'm thinking.... how can I make a Mrs Claus to go with my Santa.....

Can Santa help me organize my sewing room?

Santa knows what it's like to have a creative space.
He knows how messy it can get, with projects all over the place.
He has just the thing, to help keeps our spaces neat.
These wonderful projects boxes and pouches would be such a treat!

These projects boxes and pouches hold a lot of things. You can put all of the pieces of projects in them, or just put the pattern and fabric in them if they are for the future. We have lots of colors and sizes to choose from. Is someone wondering what to get you for the holiday? Print out this posting, send them to the Quilt Shop, we will take care of the rest!

Santa says.....
