serging up a storm now

My flatlocked tote is finished, it's hanging up at the store....

Now I started my log cabin serged table topper. Talk about quick. This isn't going to be quilted, the whole topper is pieced together on the serger so the back looks very clean finished.
Got 2 rows done this morning......

Next will be a rolled hem baby blanket out of flannel!
So far "sew" good, or should I say, "serged" good.
We have these great new Christmas fabrics from Robert Kaufman in the store now!
The colors are so pretty.
Both of these projects will be demonstrated at Virtual Bernina Club in August.
You will get the patterns if you come to the club!

Now that I'm not using my 830 as much... someone else in this house has taken it over.

getting there

Slowly but surely I am bonding with my serger. This is the beginning of my flatlocked bag.
Flatlocking is a stitch that you can do on a serger, by using a decorative thread. The effect is very pretty and it adds texture to whatever you are making. Now to finish the bag, that is the easy part! Then I can start my next project, a log cabin tablecloth, all done on the serger.
Stay tuned!

Come meet a serger

I love my sewing machine. About 25 years ago I was introduced to a serger. At the time I was making curtains, clothing, and home dec items so I had to have it. I used it for a while but then there it sat, ready when I needed it but not used very much.
Fast forward 25 years, our next Virtual BERNINA club is all about sergers.
I have 3 projects to make using my serger.
Step 1- find the serger
Step 2. Find the manual.
Step 3- order a new serger.
Sergers have come a long way since my first one. This new 1150 is much easier to thread, will do a rolled hem by just sliding a switch.
First project, a flat locked tote bag. Stay tuned

see how easy this is?

I have a dear friend Donna that I work with. I knew she was a quilter at heart, she just hadn't figured that out yet. I gave her a tumbler kit.
She's hooked, she's so hooked, look what she made, a movie about her tumbler!

If you have a friend that you want to introduce to quilting, our tumbler kits are a great way to start!
Thanks Donna for a great movie~

How do you make a ruffle?

video
I remember when I learned to sew, one of the first lessons was how to gather a piece of fabric. You sewed a long stitch, then pulled the threads. As soon as you almost had it gathered, the thread would break and you would start all over again.
This accessory from BERNINA makes it so easy to gather or ruffle fabric.
We will be demonstrating this foot at Virtual BERNINA Club on Saturday June 16th.
Everyone is welcome, just call ahead so we know you are coming!

How to Maintain Your Sewing Machine - CraftStylish

How to Maintain Your Sewing Machine - CraftStylish

Check out this blog.... she does a great job of showing you how to clean your sewing machine yourself. A clean machine is a happy machine!
Sewing machines work best when they are clean. You will be amazed how much lint builds up under the throat plate.
I am now in the habit of cleaning out under the throat plate, whenever I wind a bobbin. It takes an extra minute, but it is well worth it!
