Happy Wednesday to everyone. I finished this up last night, it is from a wonderful website called Moda Bake Shop. Sponsored by Moda fabrics, this website is filled with free projects. I've always loved Dresden Plate, this one just caught my eye because of the bright colors and the pretty yellow background. Directions are included to make the table topper, or a quilt. The plates were made from a charm pack of 5 inch squares. I used the Easy Dresden tool. It made cutting all the blades very easy. We have it at the Quilt Shop. I also used one of our new threads, the varigated Cotona thread. I used the blanket stitch on my BERNINA . Now to layer it and quilt it!

Don't be a sitting duck
I have a new favorite book, Sockology. It is filled with fun patterns to make sock creatures. Now I have a personal relationship with my old friend Sock Monkey, but this is even better. Here is my first sockology project....
He is called "sitting duck" The author has written some funny directions about how if you have a "big bad boss" you keep this on your desk. I found some socks on the clearance rack for 50 cents, found two black beads, used some plastic pellets to stuff him, and there he is, my sitting duck!
Going out today to get more fun socks. Most of the socks in the book are anklets, but you can use knee socks, toe socks, men's socks, anything you want....
We have this book at the Quilt Shop, stop in to get your copy soon.

Irene..... goonight Irene.....
So the weather forecasters and all a buzz, here we go a hurricane might come.
I got batteries, water, food, etc., but more important, I have to plan what I will do inside.
I'll sew, but if the power goes out.... then what....
I'll cut! I can get out my Go Cutter and cut 5 inch squares or other shapes, Goodness knows I have plenty of fabric and I can get some of my scraps cut up into useable pieces. I've always wanted to do a scrap tumbler....
There is always yo yo making.... I have my yo yo makers
So when you are out getting your milk, bread, batteries and water, stop in at the quilt shop, we have Go Cutters, Yo Yo makers, books, magazines, and everything you need for riding out the storm!

Shake Rattle and Roll
And what were you all doing during the earthquake? I was machine quilting.... happily on the BERNINA 820, when I thought I felt a truck go by. That wouldn't stop me, I kept on quilting.
I was working on a gift for one of my teachers at the Y, she just passed her Personal Trainer test and I wanted to give her a little something to celebrate. This bag is in the book, Let's Do Lunch by Terri Atkinson. I finished it in about 2 hours.
After that, Amy came to visit with 2 finished projects. She made this great holiday table runner,
She also made this beautiful table topper, all with appliqued trees.
We got several new books in today, one of them is called Sockology, it is filled with patterns for stuffed toys to make out of socks! I am searching through my sock drawer tonight!

All done!
Well, I like this new cat bed, Kaida sniffed it, laid next to it, jumped over it, pushed it with her nose, and that is it! It was so easy to make, I finished it in about an hour. Added the piping with my #14 zipper foot with the guide, added a zipper on the back for easy laundering, and then sewed it all together with my all purpose #1 foot.
Maybe Kaida will learn to love it, if I can get her off the ironing board......
Want to try making it for your pet? We have the magazine in stock and lots of pretty flannels to choose from. Stop in to see us soon!
project for the day
Our new cat Kaida loves sitting in my sewing chair, the minute I get up to sew something, she hops in. Same thing with my desk chair at my computer. I found a pet pillow/bed pattern in this new issue of Quilts and More magazine. I bought some pretty flannel at The Quilt Shop, and found a package of piping that will match. Stay tuned! Too pooped to pop
Reilly had a great time on his vacation. I think we all feel like this sometimes.

The last of our summer classes are ending this week, but we have some brand-new ones coming up in the fall schedule. Some of the samples are hanging up already. Come on over to see us. We love when you visit. Especially when you bring your latest project. Have a great day everyone and thanks for being our friends.

We need your input
Amy has done it again, a beautiful quilt. This is an example of a traditional quilting technique called English Paper Piecing. We are considering adding this as a class to our fall schedule. We aren't sure if enough people would be interested. If you are interested in taking this class, please comment in our comment box or call the store- (203)-743-0543.

Feeling Groovy
Today was our Groovy Girl meeting.....Debbie brought her new grandson's baby quilt, plus these great bumpers she made out of a swimming pool noodle...
Donna brought her Happy Holidays table topper, and the placemats she made out of the "boo boo" pieces she made.
Terry brought her Happy Holidays tree skirt
But our favorite show and tell today was our friend Lucretia who brought her organized BERNINA Foot box. She has each foot in her original package, She brings the box with her when she wants to buy a new foot, so she wont buy any duplicates!
and last but not least.... Maureen brought her beautiful silk quilt she made out of one of our Silk kits.
We learned about pillows today, how to do piping on a pillow and how to put a zipper in a pillow back. Next time we are going to learn how to make fabric boxes. Come join us!
Sunday September 18th 10-12. $20.
